parallel[land]scapes |
In my recent works I use stereoscopic photography
(and sometimes video) overlayed with abstract real-time
computer graphics. The work "Parallelscapes" uses
interactive stereoscopic projection and offers views of
natural landscapes, urban environments and people in various
situations (in night club, at dinner table, in a car) -
interwoven in pulsating "hybride
tissues", constituted by metaphysical code. In these
synthetic "landscapes", the eyes of the viewer
participate in imaginary "surgery on space",
travelling between endo- and ultra-perspective of situations.
The work emphasizes the idea about multi-layered structure
of the "fabric of reality" and may hint that
the visible reality, its technological represention and
mapping, human inner experience of space, diffuses into
a paradoxical composite image. http://cellulae.x-i.net/scapes

Artist Bio |
Jaanis Garancs
After studies at the Latvian Academy of Arts, Riga/Latvia;
Royal University of Fine Art in Stockholm/Sweden and Germany
(MFA 2003 at the Academy of Media Arts - KHM - Cologne)
continues in areas of interactive multi-media installations,
Virtual Reality, Internet and cultural network projects.
Participations with exhibitions, projects, lectures in many
international events - Ars Electronica (1997,1998,2002) -
Linz/Austria; EXPO2000 - Hanover/Germany; ISEA2004 Helsinki/Finland;
DEAF04, Rotterdam/the Netherlands; Transmediale, Berlin/Germany
- and venues such as Kiasma, Helsinki/Finland; SAT, Montreal/Canada;
BNMI - Banff/Canada, ICA - London/UK - among others.
Recent solo and collaborative works -- interactive and networked
installations, featuring synthetic urban landscapes, geo-encoded
and location-aware media - manifested in audiovisually intensive
stereoscopic 3D projections and multi-channel audio, touch
up with concepts of contemporary theoretical physics, communication
and evolution theories. Another artistic research focus
is multi-media "performance", using self-developed "VR instruments" -
virtual multimedia interfaces. Main aspects are exploration
of the extremes of audiovisual perception, artificial synaesthesia,
crossing of sensory pathways and treating immersive environments
as place and tool for aesthetic experiments. |
