Chit Chat

In social situations where you mix with people you don't know well, most of us scramble to find topics of common interest. This is small talk, and the only thing we hate more than engaging in it is initializing it ourselves.   ChitChat is an installation that projects a voice-activated speech bubble above your head as you speak. The bubble swells as you talk with the text "blah bla blah blah", which changes size and   text attributes (bold, italics, underlines) to reflect the volume and intonation of your speech. If you or friend remains silent, you will eventually get a corresponding thought bubble.

Matty Sallin

From a background in set design, performance art, and e-learning, Matty moved to San Francisco to script websites at consultancy marchFIRST. He made the leap from developer to designer when he submitted an unsolicited design brief for a project he was assigned to build, not design. The last-minute entry won the client over and was nominated for Best Business Site award at the 2000 Flash Film Festival in London. After completing a redesign for the homepage for Japanese advertising giant Dentsu, Matty was asked to become senior design technologist at a Dentsu web consultancy in Tokyo. After two years at Dentsu, Matty moved to Northern Italy to study interaction design for a year at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea. Matty is currently pursuing his Masters degree at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program, and will graduate Spring 2006. www.mathlete.com
